Many men who are unhappy with the size of their penis turn to home methods or social media advertising; however, almost none of these methods have scientific support and they cannot create a meaningful, lasting change. Reliable evidence shows that massages such as jelqing, using herbal creams and oils or home stretching exercises are not only ineffective, but can also be dangerous.
The harms from these methods should not be ignored. Manual massage and excessive pressure may cause tissue tears, scarring, curvature, or reduced erectile function. Advertised creams and oils usually do not affect tissue growth and may even cause skin irritation, allergy, inflammation, or infection. Traction devices, if used without medical supervision, also carry a risk of skin wounds, chronic pain, swelling, or tissue injury.
The main reason these methods fail is that penile size is largely genetically determined after puberty and does not change with creams or massage. Even in limited studies of traction devices, any increase in length has been small and temporary; achieving even that limited effect requires regular use for months.
If you are concerned about your penile size, consulting a urologist is the best choice. Many men who worry about this are still within the normal range and do not need treatment. In cases where penile size is truly below normal, the physician may recommend evidence-based options such as surgical release of the penile suspensory ligament or penile filler or fat injection.
